Projects Overview

Our projects include widespread deposits of bauxite throughout Eastern Australia. From being amajor producer to the international markets of the aluminium source rock of bauxite , to the precious form of pure alumina, Sapphires.

Widespread deposits of bauxite are known to exist in the Central Volcanic Province of north-eastern New South Wales, around Inverell. Furthermore, widespread deposits of bauxite have been recognized in the Monaro Volcanic Province in southern New South Wales, near Cooma (Figure 1).

Bauxite deposits in these provinces are associated with basaltic volcanic rocks that appear to have undergone intense alteration leading to the formation of significant amounts of gibbsite (aluminum hydroxide) in selected volcanic rocks.

Bauxites formed by this process in this type of geological setting appear to represent a new and exciting exploration target for economic bauxite deposits in Australia that has been largely overlooked by previous explorers.

Volcan Australia Corporation Pty Ltd (wholly owned by Volcan Holdings Inc) has commenced a large-scale assessment of bauxite deposits associated with Tertiary basaltic volcanic terrains in Eastern Australia. Research work by the Company’s geological team has found that high-grade bauxite deposits, with available alumina contents up to 60% and reactive silica contents.

Furthermore, given that the basaltic bauxites discovered within the Company’s tenements contain relatively high iron contents ( up to 46%), potential may also exist for the recovery of a pig-iron by-product, after the low temperature caustic soda digestion of these gibbsite-rich rocks has taken place.

To underpin future exploration, the Company will also be applying its new volcanic hydrothermal alteration geological model to the search for large-scale economic bauxite deposits throughout prospective areas of eastern Australia.

The following outlines the Company’s bauxite exploration projects and resource evaluation rationale in going forward.

New England Bauxite

Project Details

Approximately 600km north-west of Sydney (Australia), New England bauxite project is located immediately to the north-east and east of Inverell within EL 7301. Volcan Australia Corporation (VAC) has tenement access to more than 1000km2 of area and total of 336 units within EL 7301. A large scale satellite interpretation program followed by a field sampling program, has identified extensive bauxite signatures across the entire Inverell tenement base. The figure below shows the New England Bauxite Tenements E.L.7277 (411 km2) and E.L.7301 & 7302 (1008 km2) in relation to the towns of Glen Innes and Inverell.

Monaro Bauxite

Project Details

Located in Monaro Volcan Province, near Cooma, in southern New South Wales, the project has tenement access to 1,182 units and covers an area of 3,500km2. It is believed that the area is host to widespread occurrences of bauxite. These bauxite occurrences appear to be associated with gibbsite-altered basalts and are expected to be rich in alumina content and low in silica grades.
